Layers are chickens that lay eggs at a commercial scale.

Most of these chickens are required to lay at least an egg every day to be classified as productive. Most backyard chickens get broody and stop laying eggs. They simply can not keep up with the layers.Have you ever wondered what they feed these birds. This blog is going to discuss this.

Chick starter mash

This is fed to chicks from 1-5 weeks old.It is finely ground and contains a lot of proteins, vitamins and minerals.Allow them to eat as much as they can.

Growers mash

Medium textured feed from 5 weeks to point of lay.It contains a lot of carbohydrates

Layers Mash

Coarsely textured feed that is given to hens as they lay eggs.It contains a lot of proteins and minerals especially phosphorus and calcium[needed for shell formation]

LAYERS SHOULD NOT BE OVER FED AS THIS REDUCES THEIR LAYING CAPACITY.
